NEW NSC PATHWAY

ELECTRICAL
TECHNOLOGY

An electrifying new technical pathway for aspiring electricians, electrical engineers and entrepreneurs.

ELECTRICAL
TECHNOLOGY

Brainline Learning World is excited to offer a new technical pathway as part of achieving the National Senior Certificate. This exciting course is ideal for learners who would like to pursue a career in a technical field.

Starting with Grade 10 in 2017, Brainline offers Electrical Technology with the focus on two areas, namely Electrical Systems and Digital Electronics.

Electrical Technology equips learners with a firm foundation in electrical and digital principles. It prepares learners for a category which is much desired by the industry, tertiary institutions and entrepreneurs.

YOU CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO EXCITING PATHWAYS:

ELECTRICAL
SYSTEMS

Electrical Systems deals with the principles according to which electric power is generated,  distributed and connected to systems such as a typical home setup, generators, motors and transformers.

Core Objectives

  • safe work practices
  • good housekeeping
  • first aid practices
  • reading and interpreting circuit diagrams from symbols to application
  • sourcing components
  • constructing circuits
  • installation, testing and troubleshooting
  • taking measurements
  • workshop practice

DIGITAL
ELECTRONICS

Digital Electronics is a specialised field that is centred on intelligent electronic devices. It is a subject for learners who are very interested in computers and wish to pursue a career in engineering.

Key Concepts

  • basic robotics

  • mechatronics

  • special effects

  • microcontrollers

  • programmable ICs

  • Boolean algebra

  • system control

  • processors and programming

  • communication systems

TECHNICAL
SCIENCES

The aim of Technical Sciences is to support learners on the technical pathway, and to better integrate different branches of knowledge.

PRACTICAL
SESSIONS

The attendance of compulsory practical sessions will be required (in Roodepoort, for approximately 5-7 days). Additional charges apply. The dates will be communicated to learners.

ADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTS

Safety equipment (such as boots and an overall) will be required when attending practical sessions. Engineering Graphics and Design requires TurboCAD 21 Deluxe and drawing instruments.

TECHNICAL
MATHEMATICS

Technical Mathematics helps to develop mental processes that enhance logical and critical thinking, accuracy and problem solving

ACADEMICALLY
CHALLENGING

A word of caution — Electrical Technology is a challenging pathway and is only recommended to learners with a great aptitude for mathematics and science.

NON-DESIGNATED
SUBJECTS

Electrical Systems, Digital Electronics, Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences are currently non-designated subjects. Please consult tertiary institutions about entrance requirements.
